Windows and Mac, there’s nothing wrong with them. I’m just staing a couple of facts of why anyone would even consider switching. I’ve switched before, but unavoidably I’ve had to switch back to Windows XP. Reason is that it is such a pain to do Web Design work on Linux. Dreamweaver and Photoshop run much better on XP anyways, not to mention Illustrator. So, anyways here are The Top 10 Reasons to Switch to Linux:
1. The Price: This is the most obvious reason why anyone would consider Linux in the first place. DUH!
2. Security: Most of the viruses, spy ware, and ad ware that exists today, exist only to plague window users. There are virtually very, very few people interested in damaging your Linux OS. Who would want to? Linux is the ideal OS for security.
3. Reliable: Linux gives you increased up time (not having to reboot so often after a long night of downloading) and less risk of wasting your time going off and playing games. Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any games to play on Linux. This just means that Linux is the ideal OS for productivity. Most of the users who use Linux do so for Coding however, so if you’re a coder, use Linux! (Another reason why I switched back to XP, I couldn’t play my games!)
4. Best Support Available: There are Thousands of geeks out there willing to give you a hand, hundreds of forums post, tons of e-mail lists that you can join, and the replies are usually within the same day. Even the big companies like IBM, Dell, and Novell provide their users with Linux support.
5. Software Liberty: You do not have to purchase new and expensive software each time a new version comes out. With Linux, you are free to choose your software, and are not “pushed” into using something that already comes pre-installed. Personally I hated the pre-installed software that came with my SONY VAIO… I had to re-install windows.
6. Inexpensive Software: That’s right, most of the best software out there, like Firefox, is free. You have a wide range of possibilities available for your Linux OS, and most of the best choice is open source. If you are a company, your costs are lowered dramatically each time you are in need of new software. Linux provides the user with top rated software that can make your wallet a lot happier.
7. Improved Customization: You can make Linux work EXACTLY the way you want it too. For coders and some developers, a wide variety of programming language that works on Linux is available for creating customized personal software that will work exclusively for you. Also, your desktop environment, your default settings, anything can be customized to your liking.
8. Superior Network Management: Due to the high level of security Linux Operating Systems provides, running a network or server is more secure. Plus, everything can be done remotely without compromising the security. This is a huge advantage for network administrators.
9. Rapid Training: Thanks to the great community that surrounds Linux distros, today we are able to use an evolved version of the original Linux. Most distros provides ease of use, thanks to the various desktop environments available that meet today’s standards. Using Linux has never been easier.
10. Efficiency: Did you know that Linux has more efficient use of processing power? Especially for severs!
Well there you have it. I picked up these top 10 reasons from some site… honestly I forgot where I’ll have to go back and give credit. SO… stay tuned for an update.
