Looks like Google is at it again. Apparently there are reports that some well known site’s PR has gone down today. Yaro’s blog went from a PR 6 to a 5.
Let me tell you what Google is really doing, based on stuff I’ve read on forums. The sites that are really being hit are the ones that are selling links. In other words, if site A (seller) let’s you put a link of your site (buyer) on their site, then Site A is going to be affected by Google’s targeted update. Not everyone is suffering a PR decrease.
Again, based on speculation and reports from other sites, only the sites that are participating in link exchanges are targeted. This would, in turn, affect the site it’s also linking too.
Basically, this is all an effort to decrease the link juice some websites offer to others. This blog of mine, at the time of writing this post, is a PR N/A. So it sure as heck won’t be affected by this update.
Pagerank is an important asset to Google. How many high authority sites have low PR? None! There are lots of companies that rely on PR for evaluating websites for market value. It’s only natural that Google would do their best to try and protect one of their most important technologies. I’m all for it, Google is an incredible company. (No I don’t work there.)
