I Updated to 2.3 WOOT!!!

These are the simple steps I took for updating Wordpress. I use Cpanel and Fantastico to manage my server. For easy access to your WP files use an FTP client like Filezilla, or for those who don’t do heavy FTPing simply install a firefox extension called FireFTP. Up to you matey!

STEPS FOR UPDATING WORDPRESS

1. Download Wordpress 2.3. Deactivate all plug-ins and log out of WP Dashboard.

2. Delete all old WP files. For those who simply have no idea which ones they are, simply match the old files with the new files you will upload. It’s really not hard, it’s only about 10-15 files. You could probably get away by simply replacing the files without erasing anything… it’s up to you mate.

3. Upload all new WP files to the install directory on your server. In my case, my install directory is my Blog’s Name in the PUBLIC HTML folder.

4. Back up ANYTHING you don’t want changed… that means Theme Folder, Plug-ins Folder, and if you modified any other file, back that up as well if you won’t want it replaced.

In any case, you might as well omit uploading the themes and plug-ins folder just in case.

5. Log into Dashboard and go throught the update your files process. This is done automatically. Matt is pretty smart.

6. PRESTO! You should now go through your plug-ins and see which ones do not work. I only had one that caused me problems.

If you’re wondering what the new improvements there are head on over to the Wordpress Blog. It’s worth a read if you use Wordpress.
