Just recently, Microsoft launched their new software and services platform named “HealthVault”
HealthVault is simply a new way for consumers to keep track of their health records without having to make that Phone Call to Dr. Phil. It stores personal information in an encrypted data base which can be either kept strictly private, or shared with family members and friends.
You might ask what does Microsoft know about diseases, Viagra and the like. Well, they have established this new service with key partners, like the American Health Association, which enables a pretty reliable database about medical stuff.
Microsoft is actually reaching out to Hospitals and their Doctors for this new health Search Engine. So chances are you’ve never heard of it. In other words, your Doctor will be the one updating your Medical Records, which places you one click away from accessing your Medical History.
This is certainly new competition for the already established Life Record. Life Record charges up to $9,999 for their service, or a monthly usage free of $499.9. Which includes integration with your iPhone. Microsoft’s HealthVault is completely free.
Google has a similar project in development: Google Health codenamed “Weaver.”
Today is the day thousands of Bloggers around the world Blog about one Topic, hoping to be able to make a difference by letting everyone know what’s on our minds. Today’s Topic: The Environment.
It’s an ever growing problem, for as intelligent as we humans are, why are we so damn stupid? Everyday we throw our waste, whether we realize it or not, anywhere we feel like. When was the last time the environment was actually a part of our daily worries?
Most people worry about their mortgage, kids, tuition, “what’s for dinner?” (That last one is me) There aren’t many who actually make a huge difference.
I sure as heck would like to do something, but I also fall as an individual who worries about personal agendas. I do, however, try my best to not litter. Well… OK I do not go around making campaigns and protesting against oil companies. As a matter of fact, I recycle!
I love to drive, but I only take the car out whenever I need to go far in the city, rest of the time I use public transportation.
Colombia is no joke either. We have two kinds of public transportation. Those that are privately owned and those that are Government owned. Government public transportation is much more healthier to the environment by a long run.
TODAY IS BLOG ACTION DAY
Yahoo announced on their blog the appearance of their new Search Assist feature embedded in Yahoo Search. The purpose is to make sure people find what their looking for without having to do multiple searches over and over again. Yahoo’s benefit is less stress on their servers when frustrated users re do their searches a number of times without going past the next page.
When you type in the search box, Yahoo! Search Assist predicts what you’re searching for and offers you suggestions.
This is similar to the feature of misspelled words, except it is now shown with Flash and also shows additional possible search terms.
Not a bad idea by Yahoo. Apparently the Windows Live Search Team is also working on some improvements to the Engine, with the Major Addition being something called “Blended Search.”
From Web Certain:
results pages which will now display a range of results for search queries such as videos, blogs and images
**COUGH… Reminds me of Google… Anyone?
I Updated to 2.3 WOOT!!!
These are the simple steps I took for updating Wordpress. I use Cpanel and Fantastico to manage my server. For easy access to your WP files use an FTP client like Filezilla, or for those who don’t do heavy FTPing simply install a firefox extension called FireFTP. Up to you matey!
STEPS FOR UPDATING WORDPRESS
1. Download Wordpress 2.3. Deactivate all plug-ins and log out of WP Dashboard.
2. Delete all old WP files. For those who simply have no idea which ones they are, simply match the old files with the new files you will upload. It’s really not hard, it’s only about 10-15 files. You could probably get away by simply replacing the files without erasing anything… it’s up to you mate.
3. Upload all new WP files to the install directory on your server. In my case, my install directory is my Blog’s Name in the PUBLIC HTML folder.
4. Back up ANYTHING you don’t want changed… that means Theme Folder, Plug-ins Folder, and if you modified any other file, back that up as well if you won’t want it replaced.
In any case, you might as well omit uploading the themes and plug-ins folder just in case.
5. Log into Dashboard and go throught the update your files process. This is done automatically. Matt is pretty smart.
6. PRESTO! You should now go through your plug-ins and see which ones do not work. I only had one that caused me problems.
If you’re wondering what the new improvements there are head on over to the Wordpress Blog. It’s worth a read if you use Wordpress.
